My next writing project is a poetry collection titled Soul Song. I'm currently targeting a Holiday 2020 release. This is the cover art.

Work on my next short story continues to be slow, but I have been writing poetry consistently. All poetry can be found on my tumblr https://www.tumblr.com/blog/rachelbowersstories. As a note, a lot of the poetry that does not make it to facebook is about trauma of various kinds, the individual poems are marked with content warnings for you to decide which to read, and which to ignore.

Due to a number of circumstances in my life, some related to Covid-19, and some unrelated, I think it is likely that the next story will not release in April. I apologize and hope to have it ready as soon as possible. In the mean time I have included a poem that I wrote.

Goodbye


I never got the chance to say goodbye to you,
So I sit here, mourning the future we'll never have,
Every time you were struck by life, you stood,
You turned to help the next person to face that challenge,
For years I wanted to reach out, but my anxieties won,
I held the phone in my hand writing and deleting texts,
The send button seeming like the greatest enemy,
An undefeatable foe, time and again I turned back.


Now I say goodbye through text in a world you left,
Unsure if you can hear my heartsong, I hope,
If you can't hear, then I'll cry out into the dark,
By healing do I do you a disservice?
Does moving on mean erasing your memory?
I will ignore the voices calling for complete surrender,
I shall live, and incorporate parts of your credo,
Turning to help up the next person to face my challenges,
You will live on in the people you inspired.

I had mentioned that the stories would be available for free for the first two weeks, but in the submission process didn't see a possibility to set that up, the stories may end up costing $0.99 at release. If I can make it work for them to start free, I will.
